Blue dragonfly visits

While doing yard work earlier this week, I noticed quite a few dragonflies were hovering around. This blue dragonfly landed on one of the container ponds and sat motionless.

Water lily blooms

After receiving two half whiskey barrel ponds for free on Craigslist in Febrary, I left them in a partly shaded part of the yard. Today, I spotted this bloom. Several buds are peeking up from the depths. It's looking like it will be a beautiful summer.

Tiny trophy pot

Denise picked up a second hand trophy, which I disassembled and turned into a tiny pot. The trophy topper now adorns the pond.

Cliff chirping frogs emerge

Cliff chirping frogs are emerging from the pond! These tiny frogs sound similar to crickets, and are at home in limestone cliffs. They are among the only frog species that can walk and run.

Turtle lays eggs

During my walk around the parking lot at work today, I spotted this mama turtle laying eggs. I'm going to keep an eye on this spot in hopes of seeing baby red ear sliders emerge in about 50 days.
