Late poppy blooms

Late-blooming poppies provides a nice spot of color in the yard.

St. Edward's flowers bloom

While attending AccessU, the annual accessibility conference held at St. Edward's University, I took a stroll around campus to admire the flowers in bloom. A white pricklypoppy, Argemone albiflora, frames the university's Main Building.

I've never grown poppy before, but this beauty came in a packet of wildflower seeds and is absolutely gorgeous. Such delicate papery petals remind me of a whirling dervish. An equally delicate stem armored with fine thorns makes for a stunning contrast.
