Dead man's fingers

 Dead man's fingers are popping up all over the backyard!


These are the fruiting body of a Xylaria fungus that are found on decaying wood. Creepy cool.


Common in Northeast Washington, they often go unnoticed because they are small and short lived. They break down dead organic matter converting it into a form that plants can absorb as nutrients.
