Snow Investigation feeds children's imagination

Today, I'm helping lead school children on a "Snow Investigation" journey.

We set up snow shoes, discussed safety with Snow Patrol in a heated yurt, and, once students arrived, set off on the trail.

The elementary school students visit various stations where science activities are set up, such as measuring snow depths or determining how much water content is in a given volume of snow.

My station was leading participants on a snow shoeing trail and coaching them to notice nature. We listened to snow falling off trees. Spotted birds. Looked at how snow accumulates on conifers. Spied animal tracks.

But by far the most popular discovery was a tree fungus topped with snow.
