I found a fossil birch leaf and pine needle today! The Stonerose Interpretive Center includes a fossil museum, mining museum, and a nearby fossil quarry where many fossilized plants have been found, most notably, miniature roses perfectly preserved in stone.
Most fossil sites are located in remote places far away from restaurants, fuel, and hotels. Stonerose is located right in Republic, WA. Two quarries flank Main Street, with one open to the public.
The Stonerose museum has an impressive collection of fossils. Members of the public who find an unusual fossil get their name displayed along with the find.
