Ants build thatched nest

Thatching ants forage for twigs and pine needles to make a large nest that looks similar to a thatched roof.

They appear to race each other to the nest, some carrying long cargo, others smaller bits. At the nest site, the ants meticulously place their haul, then scurry back for more. They are reported to have a strong sting and some species can collectively spray enough formic acid to deter predators as large as bears.
