Stealthy skink

While watering the garden, I noticed stealthy movement. At first, I thought it was the splashing of the water drops. Soon, I noticed a smooth, shiny ground skink (Scincella lateralis) no more than 5 inches long.

As I leaned in for a photo, another more faint rustle caught my attention. It was a baby skink, maybe 2 inches long! I didn't get a photo of it, but did manage to capture the photo above.
