Monarchs don't always survive long

Some monarchs don't survive the transformation from caterpillar to butterfly. This one was unable to shed the chrysalis from its right fore wing and could not fly.

Other butterflies make it out of the chrysalis, but are eaten by a predator soon after. I found several wing fragments near the pond and this one in the strawberry patch.
