Chicken coop upgrade: nesting boxes

After one of my chickens went broody (obsessive about hatching eggs), the other 4 chickens had to share the one remaining nesting box, which sometimes resulted in eggs all over the yard or the compost bin. The best solution is to add more nesting boxes.

I cut off the opening part of the lid and removed the handles. The part of the lid that's left on the bucket is perfect for keeping the nesting material inside the bucket.

The bucket is screwed in to the wooden frame of the run. To prevent a gap under the bucket, I left one row of wire and bent it outward to keep prying critter hands in check. I think it adds support to the bucket, too.

With 4 additional nesting boxes, the girls should have no shortage of places to lay eggs.
