I cut off the opening part of the lid and removed the handles. The part of the lid that's left on the bucket is perfect for keeping the nesting material inside the bucket.
The bucket is screwed in to the wooden frame of the run. To
prevent a gap under the bucket, I left one row of wire and bent it
outward to keep prying critter hands in check. I think it adds support
to the bucket, too.
With 4 additional nesting boxes, the girls should have no shortage of places to lay eggs.
